Obituary

Carnell “Ray” Ritchie, Sr. 73, of Gambrills passed away on December 31, 2018. He was born in Washington, DC on March 23, 1945.
He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1970, when he was honorably discharged at the rank of SP5.
He retired from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission as a Supervisor after 22 years of employment. After his retirement, he worked at various full or part time jobs until 2013, when his health started to fail.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1456 in Glen Burnie, MD where he was a member of the pool league for many years. He enjoyed going to car shows, dancing, fishing, playing the slot machines and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Vada; three sons, Carnell R. Ritchie, Jr., Christopher A. Ritchie and Troy M. Ritchie; Grandchildren, Emily, Madison, Chase, Preston and Brooke, who were the light of his life. He is also survived his stepmother, Lucy M. Leizear; 5 brothers, Charles C. Leizear, Jr., Ronald Leizear, James Collins, John Leizear and Joseph Leizear; and 4 sisters, Patricia Doubledee, Deborah Haggerty, Cheryl Sappington and Donna Kidwell. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Hardesty Funeral Home P.A., 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, MD, where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday January 7, 2019 at 11:30 am. Interment with military honors will take place at 1 pm on Monday, January 14, 2019 in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, MD.
