Patricia (Pat/Patty) Ann Cheney, (née Zielinski)

Patricia (Pat or Patty) Ann Cheney, (Zielinski), passed 6:40 p.m., December 15, 2018. Patricia was born on June 23, 1935 to Walter (Walt) and Dorothy (Dot) Zielinski in the quaint town of Newport, New Hampshire. Patty attended Towle H.S. in Newport until June, 1951. That summer, she relocated with her family to West Springfield, Massachusetts. Patty completed her Junior and Senior years, graduating from West Springfield H.S. in June of 1953. A month later, Patricia joined the Navy in July 1953, earning the rank of Petty Officer before being honorably discharged in July 1955. While in the Navy, she met and married Richard P. Cheney (deceased October 2, 2018), USAF (Ret. CMSGT) on June 24, 1955. She lived abroad, Asia and Europe, concentrating on raising her family and volunteering part-time with the American Red Cross and other helpful causes, while Dick completed a career in the United States Air Force. In the mid 1970's, Patricia re-entered the workforce, this time as a civil servant with the Army Audit Agency and subsequently completing her career with the National Security Agency. During that time, Pat earned an Associate's Degree from Anne Arundel Community College. In 2006, her and Dick relocated to New Market, MD from Odenton, MD. Patricia Ann Cheney is survived by her son, James Cheney and his (wife Debra, their children Jeffrey & Jack Cheney), son John Cheney and his (wife Karen, their children Kristopher & Kraig Cheney) and daughter Jolene Bower and her (husband Robert, their children James and Rachel Bower). Patricia is also survived by her sister Joan Hague and her (husband Alfred, their daughter Pamela La Fountain and her [husband Dwight, their son Kyle and his (wife Jennifer) and their son Bryan], and her son Alan Hague, and his [wife Kerry, their daughter Jaeda], and her son Peter Hague. Pat Cheney is also survived by her brother, Donald Zielinski and his (wife Patricia Bava, and their sons Ryan and Matthew and his (wife Lauren), and her sister-in-law, Marlene Rowe, and her daughter Andrea Goldy (husband Chris, and their son Kyle (wife Cassondra) and their daughter Lillian. Relatives and friends may call at the Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A. 851 Annapolis Road Gambrills, MD 21054 on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, where services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 12:30 PM. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1080 Sunrise Beach Road Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
