Thomas Quigley O'Rourke passed away peacefully at home in Millersville, Maryland on November 22, 2018 . Tom was born August 31, 1947 in New Haven, Connecticut, son of John T. and Doris (Quigley) O'Rourke. He married Suzanne (Morgan) O'Rourke in Alfred, New York on October 18, 1969 and adored her every day after.

Tom was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in New York City, Alfred University (BA), Webster College (MS), and Bowie State College (MS). An advocate of quality education, for both students and instructors, he never stopped learning and earned enough professional certifications to double the length of his name. As an avid reader, his engaging conversations easily turned to history lessons, and he collected enough books to double the weight of his home.

After graduating college with a draft number of 11, Tom eagerly enlisted in the US Navy in 1970. As a second class petty officer, he was selected for Aviation Officer Candidate School, commissioned, and received his wings in 1973. He served aboard VP-49, VP-30, the USS Saratoga, VP-26, and Defense Information Systems Agency before retiring from the Navy in 1991.

Tom loved the ocean and spent many years of his life flying above, sailing across, or scuba diving below it, all over the world. With such extensive travels, he could talk to anyone about their home town, from Washington DC to Djibouti. His first greeting to anyone he met was "Where are you from?"

Following military retirement, Tom created and operated a firm providing management consulting services. He entertained and educated people through teaching courses at USDA Graduate School, Trinity College, Johns Hopkins University, and at University Maryland University College where he was an Adjunct Professor. Through funny stories about friends and family, he helped hundreds of people pass the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam. Tom was proudly awarded for his use of humor in the classroom.

He is survived by two daughters: Bridget (Tom) Ryan, Arlington, VA and Coleen (Mike Ross) O'Rourke, Bozeman, MT, and a son, Sean (Natasa) O'Rourke, NYC, NY. Grandchildren: Regan, Quinn, Devin, and Kenzie Ryan and Riley Ross. For his students: yes, those were real stories.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother, John T O'Rourke III.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the family residence located at 406 Phenita Point Drive, Millersville, Maryland 21108, from 1-7pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2018.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full honors at a future date.
