Obituary

Joanne Shacochis, age 78, was peacefully called home on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, after a long battle with Scleroderma. She completed her journey at home with family and friends.
Joanne was born on September 5, 1940 and grew up in Laflin, PA before beginning her life-long love affair with her husband Martin, and moving to her more permanent home in Crownsville, MD, where they have resided for more than 50 years. From an early age she was driven by her love of the Lord and active in her church. Over the years she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served wherever she was needed. Her loving spirit was always front-and-center; her heart always open to people and her prayer list never too long. Early on, JoAnne worked at the National Security Agency, but resigned to be a full-time Mom for years before returning to work at Indian Creek Elementary School, retiring in the late 1990s. It was during her time at home that she had the most impact not just in her own family, but with the many people who lovingly referred to her as Mom or Nama. She raised her children and then became a pillar for her grandchildren. She was not only a wife and mother, but a friend, confidant, and inspiration to many during her lifetime. During her later years, she became an avid Orioles fan and never missed a game on television. She was a fan to the very end!
Joanne is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Martin Shacochis; her children, Dale (Cliff) Conway, Marty (Chrissey) Shacochis, John (Jen) Foster , Jody (Jim)Conway; and, the people that kept her going the most, her grandchildren - Marty Shacochis, Jessica Conway, Jordan Scheffler, CJ Conway, Kevin Conway, Marcus Scheffler, Joshua Scheffler, Elizabeth Foster and Brandon Shacochis. She is also survived by her siblings Jerry Werzinski (Ruth), Jackie Basara (George) and Mark Werzinski (Joan).
She was preceded by her parents Joseph and Louise Werzinski and siblings Joyce and John.
