Obituary

Norma Lee Schwartz ( nee Stein), 94 died September 19,2018. Born August 21,1924 in Baltimore, MD., she attended Forest Park High School, graduating at age 16. She married the late Nathan Schwartz on June 27, 1943. She and Nathan moved to Annapolis and opened Homewood Pharmacy in 1948. They opened South River Pharmacy in Edgewater ten years later. Nathan and Norma Lee were true partners in business for 36 years, with Norma Lee serving as corporate secretary/treasurer, handling all financial accounting.
Norma Lee was a life member of Congregation Kneseth Israel, and at one point served as the synagogue’s financial secretary. She was a life member and past president of Hadassah, an organization dedicated to raising funds to improve health care in Israel. She was the women’s division chairman for Israel Bonds in Annapolis for 16 years, and was recognized by the organization as a “ Woman of Valor” for her dedication and hard work.
Norma Lee was a supporter of the American Heart Association, and participated in a project “Creative Cruisine”, designed to guide and encourage restaurants to offer meals on their menus that met dietary guidelines of heart patients. She and her husband volunteered at Anne Arundel Medical Center through the auxiliary, and worked at the hospital gift shop. After 68 happy years of marriage, Nathan passed away in February, 2012.
Norma Lee is survived by her son, Dr. Steven Schwartz; her daughter, Susan Vitale (Paul) and her brother, Alan Stein. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Alex Vitale and Amy Shaw (Ian) and by her great-grandchildren, Matthew Schwartz and Caleb and Shayna Shaw. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a grandson Jason Schwartz. Graveside Services will be held at 1 pm on Friday September 21,2018 at the Kneseth Israel Cemetery , Annapolis, MD.
