Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Anderson

December 31, 1931 - June 9, 2018
Born in Catawba, SC
Resided in Crownsville, Maryland

The homegoing of our beloved Mary Elizabeth Anderson began on December 31, 1931 and ended on June 9, 2018. “Ms. Liz”, as she was affectionately known, was born in Catawba, South Carolina to the late Mae Lizzy Cherry and Frederick Vaughn. She attended and graduated high school in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and moved to Baltimore in the early 1950s. There, she met David Anderson, Sr., and the two were united in marriage on June 16, 1956. Of this union, four children were born: David Anderson, Sr.; Ivan Christopher Anderson, Sr.; Derrick Emmanuel Anderson; and Timothy Maurice Anderson.
Ms. Liz was a devoted member of Arundel Baptist Church since its founding in 1978, and often “encouraged” her children and grandchildren to attend services with her, including the annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. She sang soprano in the church choir, and was actively involved in the Children’s Ministry, AWANA, Vacation Bible School, and SundaySchool - if there were children involved, she was involved. This passion was also evident in her professional life, where she spent several years in childcare and development.
Ms. Liz enjoyed gardening and gave a great deal of care to the flowers, plants, fruits and vegetables she grew. This hobby complemented one of her other joys in life - cooking. Her cupboards were never bare, and she always welcomed anyone and everyone into her home for a meal, regardless of how much you had eaten before you arrived. Her homemade pies, tarts, cobblers and other desserts were legendary.
Mary Elizabeth Anderson will be reuniting in heaven with her parents, her brothers James and Harold, and sister Edna. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: devoted husband of sixty-two years, David Anderson, Sr.; sister, Barbara Franklin (Frank); brother, John Cherry, Jr. (Ann); sisterly cousin, Nettie Bowens (Calvin - deceased); loving children David (Joyce), Ivan (Lynise), Derrick (Donna), Timothy, daughter-in-law Hortence Forrest, and stepchildren Darryl Anderson (Paulette) and Donna Anderson; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, and friends.
While we all felt at home with her, she was more than a homemaker. She was truly a “people-maker” and sowed righteous seeds into the lives of many. We will never forget her countless life lessons, the most important of which, as Jesus said, was “love.”
