Graveside services for William Edmund "Billy" Zang, 76, of Harwood, were held at 1:30 p.m. yesterday at the Quaker Burial Ground in Galesville. Mr. Zang died Sept. 8 at his home after a brief illness.

Born June 16, 1929, in Galesville, Mr. Zang was the son of the late William Woodfield Zang and Lille Mae Catterton. He graduated from Southern High School in 1947.

A lifelong farmer, he was known for his vegetable and fruit crops, which he sold at a stand by his house and at the Anne Arundel County Farmers' Market on Riva Road.

In 1964 he was named Outstanding Farmer of the Year in Maryland by the Jaycees, and in 1965 he was named Conservationist of the Year by the Soil Conservation Service.

He was a member of the Galesville United Methodist Church, the Anne Arundel County Farm Bureau and the South River Ruritan since 1965, serving as president in 1982. He was proud of his 38 consecutive years of perfect attendance with the club, his family said.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Laura Mae Zang; two sons, Larry Zang of High Point, N.C., and Timothy Zang of Harwood; one sister, Irma Myers of Annapolis; and five grandchildren.
