Retired Navy Cmdr. Robert William "Bob" Aubuchon, 89, a resident of Annapolis for 49 years, died Nov. 23 at home.

Born Dec. 11, 1916, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late George James and Clara Ethel Shults Aubuchon, Mr. Aubuchon graduated from Washington University in 1941 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and from the Midshipmen School, Columbia University in 1943.

Cmdr. Aubuchon served in the Navy for 26 years, retiring in 1968 at the rank of commander. He then worked for the federal Department of Transportation as an enforcement officer until 1979.

He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, where he was active in the social ministry committee. This past Spring, he retired from the Lutheran Mission Society Board of Directors after 27 years of services. He was honored for his leadership in renovating the South Charles Street headquarters in Baltimore and for helping to establish and later expand the Annapolis Compassion Center on West St.

He enjoyed building and remodeling projects and was an avid handyman, taking advantage of the woodshop at Ginger Cove. His interests included travel and keeping in touch with friends.

His wife of more than 50 years, the late Marian Aubuchon, died in 2001. He was the the father of the late John Aubuchon. Surviving are one son, James Aubuchon of State College, Pa.; two daughters, Suzanne Aubuchon of Alexandria, Va., and Akemi Aubuchon of Edgewater; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., Annapolis. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, 1120 Spa Road in Annapolis. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Annapolis.
