Richard (Dick) Paul Cheney, USAF (Ret.) passed on October 2, 2018. He was born on October 5, 1934 in Amsterdam, NY where his was raised by his parents Clarence and Helen Cheney. Initially joining the United States Navy in 1952 as a junior in High School, Dick decided to join the United States Air Force in 1955, making a career of it in the communication intelligence field until retiring after 22 years (12 spent overseas) in August 1974. He served bravely in Vietnam and was highly decorated, receiving the Air Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Presidential Unit Citations, and Meritorious Service Medal. In 1972 he also was selected as “The Most Outstanding Airman” for the major command he was assigned. Upon leaving the Air Force Dick was employed by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission where he retired after 20 years as their division head of applications and permits. In 1993 Dick co-founded Custodial Work Resources with his oldest son. For the remainder of his life, Dick was engaged in various political functions and groups, serving on significant successful election campaigns. Dick received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from University of Maryland. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Ann Cheney, their 3 children, James Cheney (wife Debra, their children Jeffrey & Jack Cheney), John Cheney (wife Karen, their children Kristopher & Kraig Cheney) and Jolene Bower (husband Robert, Robert's son James Bower and their daughter Rachel Bower), and his sister Marlene Rowe and her daughter Andrea Goldy. Relatives and friends may call at the Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A. 851 Annapolis Road Gambrills, MD 21054 on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM where services will be held on Thursday at 12:30 PM. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1080 Sunrise Beach Road Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor
