Obituary

Richard Franklin Jones, 83, a resident of Annapolis for 31 years and formerly of Washington, D.C., died Oct. 18 at home after a two-month illness.

Born Feb. 26, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Mr. Jones was educated in Washington, D.C., and served in the Navy from Sept. 13, 1945 to May 31, 1946.

Mr. Jones worked for the Department of Navy at the Naval Surface Weapons Center in White Oak, Md., until his retirement in Nov. 1984.

He was the former president of Bay Highland Civic Association and was active with Annapolis Neck Peninsula and Michigan Park Civic Association, where he was vice-president.

His interests included horticulture and preservation efforts.

Surviving are his wife, Marcella S. Jones, whom he married in 1945; two daughters, Stephany R. Grillo and Richelle Thomas, both of Annapolis; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., Annapolis, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial is private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
