Nancy S. Avery, 80, a native and lifelong resident of Annapolis, died Jan. 29 at the home of her son in Deale after a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 7, 1924, Mrs. Avery graduated in 1941 from Annapolis High School and was active with her class reunion committee for many years. She formerly was employed as a secretary with Germantown Elementary School.

She was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school for 40 years. Her interests included travel, learning new crafts and attending family gatherings.

She was married for 58 years to her high school sweetheart, Elzey "Buddy" Avery, before his death in 2004.

Surviving are two sons, Donald Avery of Deale and Michael Avery of Gainesville, Fla.; one daughter, Betty Ann Sisson of Stillwater, Fla.; one sister, Joan Windsor of Ladson, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Church Circle, with burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 199 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401.
