Marianne Grillo passed away on April 22, 2017, in Gambrills, Maryland. She was born on June 2, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, to Anthony and Lola Grillo. She graduated from Central High School in Valley Stream, New York, and worked for forty-five years as an executive assistant at a reinsurance firm in Manhattan, New York. Upon her retirement, she worked part time at her local library in Valley Stream.
Marianne was a devoted caretaker of her mother Lola, until her death in 1993.
Marianne was known for her creativity - she was a talented seamstress, designing her own suits, coats and gowns. She loved making doll clothes for her nieces. She also excelled at quilting, crafts, knitting and embroidery.
She was an active member of her parish, St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Valley Stream, New York, where she served as lector and selfless volunteer. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of American, holding many leadership positions over the years.
Marianne moved to Gambrills, Maryland, in 2014, to live closer to family. At the time of her death, she resided at Brightview Independent Living in Severna Park, where she made new friends, and participated in the many activities there.
Marianne was an avid reader, and lover of crossword puzzles, and travel. She is survived by her brother Anthony Grillo and his wife, Mary Jean of Gambrills; her nieces, Jeanne (Potomac, MD); Monica (Arlington, VA); and Ann (Falls Church, VA); her nephew, John (Mt. Airy, MD); and many great nieces and a great nephew.
A Funeral Liturgy and Burial will take place on Wednesday May 3rd at 12 pm in the Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, Millersville, MD. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.The family will gather from 10 to 11:30 am at the Hardesty Funeral Home in Gambrills, where friends are welcome to express condolences.
