"Judy" Judith Anne Heintz was born May 12, 1938, in Washington, DC. She spent her early years in Alexandria, VA. Her family later moved to Harwood, MD overlooking the West River and Chesapeake Bay. Growing up on a farm fostered her love of animals; raising many family pets, including dogs, cats, and horses. At the age of 14 her parents bought Judy her very own horse named "Queen". She grew up boating on the West River and sailing at the West River Sailing Club. Her father designed and built the first Penguin sailboat in the 1930s and named it the Judith Anne. This boat now is on display at the St. Michaels Marine Museum.
Judy graduated from Maryland School of Nursing, Maryland General Hospital in 1961 and then became a Maryland Registered Nurse in 1962. Following school, she enlisted in the Peace Corps and spent two years in Tanzania, East Africa. In 1966, Judy returned to school at University of Maryland, earning her Bachelors of Science in nursing. In 1969 she went to Kentucky to complete her Frontier Graduate School of Midwifery. Following her education, she worked as a midwife out in Colorado before working in the nursing division of a small Maryland Hospital. Judy also worked for many years in the art department of the family business, the Williams & Heintz Map Corporation. Judy always loved animals and being out in nature. In the 1980s Judy earned her Maryland State License to take care of animals and she spent her later years rescuing and rehabilitating possums, ducks, and various other animals.
After Judy retired, she lived out her days caring for wildlife and rescuing assorted critters. Judy spent a few years living at Brightview Senior Living in Edgewater. On June 12, 2017 she peacefully passed away with family at her side. She is survived by nieces Holly and Robin, nephews Rick and Bill, 4 grand-nieces, and 3 grand-nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Judy's life will be held on Friday, June 16 at 2 PM at Hardesty Funeral Home, 905 Galesville Road, Galesville.
In lieu of flowers, Judy's wish was to contribute to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
