Obituary

John C. Neal, age 72, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 23, 2019. He was born in 1946 to Jackson and Trevia Neal in Baltimore, MD. He lived a full life, which included a distinguished career, most of which was spent at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. John enjoyed many hobbies, including boating, carpentry, gunsmithing, sports cars, and trying to instill his love of math upon his children (it is only on this last effort that one could argue he may not have succeeded). Most of all John was dedicated to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice, to whom his affection and care will never waver. By his children, Laura and husband Adam McCann; Rachael and husband Josh Riston; Daniel Neal and wife Cathy; and Eric Neal and wife Kara. By his grandchildren, Audrey, Conner, Elise, Emma, Grayson, Greg, Haeley, Isabella, Madison, Tanner, and Vaeda. By his sister, Denise and husband Manuel Velarde. And by his family by marriage, Camielle R. Schumacher; Jim and Lynn Schumacher; Karen and Brian McDermott; Martin and Trish Schumacher; and Dave and Camille Restione. John also touched the lives of many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and colleagues who were incredibly important to him. He will be deeply missed. The family suggest contributions in his memory be made to the American Heart Association or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research
