Obituary

James Dewey Maxey Jr., 92, of Millersville, MD. died Friday, February 8th at home. He was born in Richmond, VA. on October 19, 1926, son of the late James and Florence Maxey. He is survived by his 3 children Jane Meizlish, Peggy Prater, and James Maxey III. He also leaves behind his sister Joyce Hart, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Joyce Maxey, and his sister Emily Jenkins. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS PGM-11 gunboat and also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He was very proud of his service as a Virginia State Trooper, where he qualified as an expert shooter. In 1951 he started his career in Management Information Systems at Chessie Systems Railroad and retired after 35 years of dedicated service. Jim loved telling stories about his life, especially his love for boxing and how he boxed while in the military. He enjoyed spending time with family, woodworking, painting, reading, horses, keeping up with the stock market, watching boxing and the orioles. Jim always had a smile and a joke to tell to make everyone in his presence laugh. He will be deeply missed.
