The Honorable Eugene M. “Gene” Lerner, age 85, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died November 23, 2017. Born in Annapolis on December 18, 1931, he was the son of the late Samuel and Dorothy Lerner. He graduated from Annapolis High School, the University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore Law School.
From 1980-present, Gene was a Circuit Court Judge for Anne Arundel County. He was also an alderman for Annapolis City and a former City Attorney for Annapolis. Having honorably served his country as a Private First Class, he was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Annapolis Masonic Lodge and Congregation Kneseth Israel. His hobbies were law, law and law!!!
He is survived by his wife, Lenore Lerner, whom he married May 24, 1953; children Peggy Futerman (Eli), Susan Stern (Ronald) and Andrew Lerner (Pelzer Brown); loving grandchildren Aviva Schochat (Arie), Joshua Futerman (Taylor) and Jeremy and Adam Stern; great grandchildren Michael and Ethan Schochat and Emma Futerman; and sister Adele Schickowitz (the late Joel) of Annapolis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Lerner.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 26 at 11 AM at Congregation Kneseth Israel, 1125 Spa Road, Annapolis. Burial will follow at Kneseth Israel Cemetery, 101 Defense Highway, Annapolis. Shiva will be observed at the family residence on Sunday from 7-9, and Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM both days. Memorial contributions in Gene’s memory may be made to Congregation Kneseth Israel.
