Eileen O’Toole Boulier, 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Ginger Cove Retirement Community in Annapolis surrounded by her eight children. Eileen was born in Oswego, NY on August 25, 1923 to Mathias O’Toole and Anna Mae Sheridan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth A. Boulier, who was a codebreaker during the second world war. Eileen met her husband in Washington, DC, where she was serving as a Navy WAVE in the Naval Communications Annex. Her duties included turning coded Japanese communications into Japanese text which were then translated into English. The WAVES were never told if their work produced results but when they heard that a particular airplane went down, they knew it was because of their work.
During their 61 years of marriage, Ken and Eileen enjoyed duty stations on Guam; Winter Harbor, ME; San Diego, CA; Adak, AK; Honolulu, HI, and eventually retiring in Glen Burnie, MD. Eileen often joked that she collected a child from every duty station.
Eileen was very involved with ARC and Providence Center after her youngest son, Michael, was born with Down Syndrome. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Annapolis.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of the Ginger Cove Health Center for their love and support during her many happy years there.
Eileen is survived by her children; Brian (Tonya) Boulier of Virginia Beach, VA, Patricia (Ford) Rowan of Annapolis, Pamela (David) Chapman of Jupiter, FL, Dianne (Bernard) Bailey of Bethesda, MD, Maureen (Rick) Ashley of Marblehead, MA, Kevin Boulier of Marriottsville, MD, James (Irmina) Boulier of Millersville, MD and Michael Boulier of Gambrills, MD; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, on Friday, March 9 at 9:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery at 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eileen’s memory to the Ginger Cove Foundation, Gallagher Services (Catholic Charities), Providence Center or to a charity of your choice.
