Burton Lewis Langdon

Born in Allentown, PA November 20th 1924 to Wilbur Arthur and Margaret Swayze Langdon, passed away Saturday January 19th from natural causes at the age of 94. Known to many as Burt, and Lew to others, he also held the title of Dad, and Pop Pop.

After completing high school he volunteered for the military duty at the age of 18 and was re-jected due to his eyesight. A year later he was drafted into the US Army interrupting his college career at Kutztown State College. He attended boot camp and combat engineer training, and was quickly shipped out to Europe to spend the majority of the next four years. After World War II he returned home, completed his degree in Education and in 1949 joined the Anne Arundel County Public Schools teaching staff to open the newly constructed George Fox Middle School in Pasadena, Maryland. Lew rose through the ranks of the Anne Arundel County School system and ultimately retired as Director of Personnel in 1983.

While in college Lew met Doris Lindenmuth, dated, and married on August 18th 1951 in Allen-town, PA. Their devotion to each other was clearly evident and they were rarely seen separated. Lew enjoyed fishing, and read extensively, and mutually shared the passion of travel with his wife. Together they traveled numerous times throughout Europe, often retracing his steps during military service, exploring cultures, and researching family ancestry in Ireland.

Together they raised two sons, Rick Langdon (Debbie) of Crofton, MD and Kevin Langdon (El-len) of Galesville, MD. Lew was the proud grandfather of Ryan Langdon (Ashley), Megan Langdon Szucs (CJ), Brendan Langdon (Jen), and Kate Langdon, and great grandfather to Mary Langdon and Desmond Langdon, Uncle to Scott and Shaun Lindenmuth, Kim Lindenmuth Abrams, Lynn Gutekunst Rickard, and Ann Gutekunst Grow. He was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Arthur Langdon Jr., his mother Margaret Swayze Langdon, both of Allentown, PA., and sister Elinor Langdon Gutekunst of Kutztown, PA.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday January 24th at 1:30 pm at our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville, MD 20778. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
