O'Hara, Brian J. (Brett), 47, a resident of Crofton, MD, died on Sunday, September 16, of a malignant brain tumor. Brett was born in Libertyville, IL and pursued his undergraduate studies at St. Olaf College. He was pursuing his doctorate at the University of Notre Dame in Economics in 1995 when the oligodendroglioma was first discovered. Brett underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation and returned to his studies, earning his Ph.D. in 2000. He was passionate about health and disability research, specifically the economic effects of major illnesses and health insurance coverage. Brett worked for the federal government for 19 years, 16 of those at the Census Bureau. Brett was a loyal and true friend to many. However, Brett’s greatest joy was being a father to his children, Eva (18) and Aengus (12). He was loving and dedicated to raising his children, pushing past the neurological effects of his illness. Brett’s memorial gathering will be 3pm - 5pm on September 29, at the Hardesty Funeral Home in Annapolis, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center, Hospice of the Chesapeake (
