Obituary

Robin John Kelley, a retired Army sergeant major and former Program Manager for the Maryland State Veterans Cemeteries and War Memorials died from complications of Parkinson’s Disease Wednesday, December 20, 2017.
Robin was born on June 21, 1941 in Boston, MA. His parents were Robert Pratt Kelley, a music teacher and conductor, and Nellie Boettcher, also a musician.
After graduating with a music degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, Robin won an audition with The U.S. Army Field Band, stationed at Ft. Meade, MD. He was principal trombonist and eventually the non-commissioned officer in charge of the Concert Band. From 1974-76 he was a member of the United States Armed Forces Bicentennial Band.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1999, Robin fought the disease with grace and determination. His family supported him throughout the last 18 years, and his sense of humor, love for his family and resolve to meet the daily challenges of living with a chronic condition will be missed.
Robin is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sue; his five children: Tricia (Tim) Keith of Spring City, PA; Brian (Jenny) of Havre de Grace, MD; Drew (Lindsay) of Wellington, FL; Matt of New York City; John (Rose) of Nottingham, MD, and 10 grandchildren: Caroline, Meredith, Mackenzie, Eleanor, Mason, Lucy, Maddox, Emerson, Frederick and Robert, and his sister, Nelma Kelley of Stoughton, MA.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday, January 5, 2018 at St. Bernadette Parish, 801 Stevenson Road, Severn, MD 21144. Burial will immediately follow at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. No flowers, please.
