Obituary

A. Catherine Belcher

Anna Catherine “Cathy” Belcher, originally from Arbutus, grew up in Annapolis, a resident of Glen Burnie for 45 years, and most recently a resident of Heritage Harbor for seven and a half years, died on November 14 at her home. After a recurrence of cancer in August 2017, having had a full life, she decided to rejoin her husband, parents, siblings, Nina Eickhoff, Lewis, Curley, and Norman Brown, and her "partner in crime," Sofi the cat, who preceded her. The daughter of the late Carl and Alice Brown, Cathy was born on March 26, 1932 in Arbutus, Maryland. She grew up in Annapolis, MD, and attended Annapolis High School where she studied business and secretarial skills. In 1950 she married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Belcher. They were married for 56 years until he preceded her in death in 2007. Cathy was devoted to Dick from the beginning of their marriage to the final years of his life, taking care of him at home during his long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

Cathy was a successful career woman, working first at DeConway Drug Store and Thomas Somerville before beginning her thirty six year career as a secretary for Nationwide Insurance Company. Over time she rose to the position of executive secretary and was responsible for the entire administrative staff of the company. Cathy enjoyed spending time with her many friends, brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews, she was especially close to her younger sister Barbara, Barbara’s husband Charles and her niece, Danielle. She had a quick wit, liked to laugh, and had a smile that made you feel happy to be in her presence.

Cathy is survived by her sister, Barbara Sembly, brother, Allan Brown, numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Family will receive guests at Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A., 12 Ridgely Ave., Annapolis, MD, on Tuesday, November 21, between 1-5 PM and services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 22 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
