Obituary

Rinehart, Gerald Allen, 72, long time resident of Roanoke, recently of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on October 22, 2017, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Gerald was born September 16, 1945 and was predeceased by his parents Roy Edward Rinehart and Elsie Johnson Rinehart. Gerald is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Carolyn Cole Rinehart; son Jeff Rinehart, daughter-in-law Tracy Rinehart and three beloved granddaughters, Mia, Joscelyn and Parker Rinehart all of Annapolis Maryland. Also surviving Mr. Rinehart are three brothers: Jim Rinehart (Susan) of Virginia Beach, VA., John Rinehart (Wanda) of Roanoke, Harry Rinehart (Charlotte) of Whitehall, PA, Mary (Ginger) Elliot (Jared) of Richmond, VA, and Jean Richstein (Jerry) of Marietta, GA. Also, several nieces and nephews and their families.

Gerald served in the US Navy for two years including two tours in Viet Nam. He retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation after a long career in the Accounting Department.

Family was the most important factor in Gerald’s life. He took part in every venture his son, Jeff, wanted to try. He and Carolyn shared every aspect of being proud parents and then proud grandparents. He often said he had enjoyed a great life.

There will be a short service beginning at the chapel at Sherwood Memorial Park, 1250 E Main St., Salem, VA 24153, and concluding at the gravesite at Sherwood at 2:00pm on Friday 10/27/2017.
