Obituary

Joan Morton Kaplan, 74, a longtime resident of Annapolis, died of pneumonia and a stroke on October 11, 2017 at University of Maryland Medical Center after a one week illness. Born in Rhode Island, she grew up and graduated from high school in Eaton Rapids, MI. A housewife and member of Hadassah, she served on the Annapolis Planning and Zoning Commission and the Historic District Commission. She was an avid swimmer who swam each day, and she also enjoyed sewing and embroidery, bridge club, book club and her tea group.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Kaplan, who died in 2015. She is survived by her daughters, Selena (Darren Ames) Kaplan of Butler, PA and Rivka (Christian) Skidmore of Raleigh, NC; her brother, Dennis Morton, Sr. of Boise, ID; grandchildren Erin Conroy, Stephanie Skidmore and Gracie Ames; nephew Herbert (Vikki) Sanders of Glen Burnie; and nieces Barbara Anne Sanders Cox of Florida and Patricia (Oscar) Ramos of Florida.
A graveside celebration of life service will be held on Friday, October 13 at 11 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joan’s name may be made to the Lymphoma & Leukemia Society.
