Obituary

Robert C. Baldwin "Bob", husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, a veteran, businessman, legislator, and life-long Marylander, passed away at age 81 in Annapolis on the morning of January 10, 2016, in the presence of his loving children. Born to Frank and Belle Baldwin on November 13, 1934, he was the youngest of five siblings. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and Loyola College of Baltimore. In June of 1956 he wedded his beloved wife Donna Lape Baldwin, to whom he remained devoted until her death in February of 2014. After serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1964, he began his career with Reliable Contracting Company, founded in 1928 by his uncle Bill and his father Frank, and from which he retired as Secretary/Treasurer. Twice elected to the Maryland House of Delegates, he represented Anne Arundel County's District 33, as a member of the Appropriations Committee from 1995 to 1998 and the Environmental Matters Committee from 1999 to 2003. Delegate Baldwin championed the successful effort to make "Choose Life" license plates available in the State of Maryland. He served as a member of the County's Republican Central Committee from 1990 to 1994 and as a delegate to the Republican Party National Convention in 1996. Baldwin held leadership positions with Associated Builders and Contractors as well as Utility Contractors of Anne Arundel County. He also served on the board of directors for both the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce and the Anne Arundel Community College Foundation. Bob was an avid genealogist and often worked with the Maryland State Archives to uncover family connections to the past. A long-time member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church in Millersville, he is survived by his and Donna's children, Anne Johnson and Robert Jr., David, John, Steven, Mark and Daniel Baldwin as well as 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A viewing for relatives and friends will be held at the Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A. 851 Annapolis Road Gambrills, MD (410-923-2601) on Thursday January 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and Friday the 15th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
