Obituary

Perry Edward Vanscoy, 85, a resident of Crownsville for 48 years and previously of Mayo, died of aortic stenosis on March 17, 2017 at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. Perry was born in Shinnston, WV on June 25, 1931. He was a police captain with the Anne Arundel County Police Department for 32 years, retiring in 1986. During his career with the police department, he also graduated from the FBI Academy in 1977. He was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal from the US Marine Corps in 1960 with Reserve service. A longtime member of the Masons, Perry was an accomplished woodworker who enjoyed building boats, furniture, muzzle loaders and rifles. He loved animals, crabbing, playing the banjo, hunting, gun shooting, of which he was an expert rifleman and pistolero, and above all, he was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Peggey Marie Vanscoy, whom he married on September 22, 1958, and his children, Charles Vanscoy of Oviedo, FL and Robin Vanscoy of Crownsville. Visiting hours will be on Friday, March 24 from 12-1:30 PM, followed by a funeral at 1:30, at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, MD. Interment will follow in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville.
