Leon "Lee" Wolfe, 93, of St. Margaret's, Annapolis for 34 years and previously of Eastport, died of respiratory failure Nov. 11 at Spa Creek Center in Annapolis.
Mr. Wolfe was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Galesville. He was educated in the Anne Arundel County School System.
He owned and operated Leon's Barber Shop in Eastport for over 68 years.
A Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS Allegan (AK 225) and saw action in the Pacific Theatre. He earned the Pacific Theatre Ribbon (1 star), American Theatre Victory medal and Philippine Liberation medal.
The city of Annapolis named a park in his honor in 1985, the Leon Wolfe Park. He was affectionately known as the mayor of Eastport. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, VFW, BPOE #622, Eastport Democratic Club, and was awarded the Glittering Gem Award in 2002.
He loved his business patrons, Buick automobiles, dancing and "Good Old Maryland Seafood."
He was preceded in death by his wife since 1939, Ruth Wolfe, who died Nov. 6, 2007; three brothers, Samuel, Irving and Henry; and four sisters, Rose, Ida, Ethal and Dorothy.
Survivors include his son, Ronald Wolfe and his wife Margaret of St. Margaret's Annapolis; two grandchildren, Wendy of Denver, Colo., and Tim of Kent Island; and five great-grandchildren.
