Obituary

Karen Godsey Malone 74, passed away Sunday, May 13th, 2018, at Bridgepoint Hospital in Washington, D.C. after battling complications following open heart surgery. She was born on December 6, 1943 in Newport News, VA to the late William H. Godsey Sr. and Louise Morgan Godsey. Karen grew up in New Point, VA and graduated from Mathews High School in 1962. She met her husband, Timothy H. Malone Jr., in Washington, D.C. and they were married on May 6, 1967. Tim and Karen left D.C. and settled into a house in Riva, MD where they spent the next 47 years. Karen dedicated her life to raising her three children, Brian, Shannon, and Catherine and took care of their home until she passed away. She enjoyed being outside and gardening more than almost anything else and even loved cutting the grass. She was an amazing cook whose joy came from feeding her family a homecooked meal nearly every day. Karen loved a good deal and enjoyed shopping for everyone but herself. Her single greatest joy was seeing her children happy and doing anything she could to encourage, support, and comfort them. She was an incredible grandmother to her two grandchildren and cared for them deeply. Her self-sacrifice for her family and kindness towards her friends and neighbors is what made her such a strong and caring wife, mother, and friend. In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by her son, Brian Malone (MD), daughter, Catherine Malone (MD), daughter Shannon Shrodes (TN) and her husband Chaz Shrodes, and her two grandchildren, Charles Shrodes and Hannah Shrodes. Karen is also survived by her sister, Mary Ellen Edwards (VA) and her husband Dewitt and their children Theresa and Chris, brother William “Billy” Godsey Jr. (VA) and his wife Ann, and her brother Kenneth and his wife Mary. A closed casket visitation will be held at Hardesty Funeral Home, located at 12 Ridgley Ave., Annapolis, Maryland on May 22nd from 3:00pm-5:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm. The Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday May 23rd at 10:30am at St. John Newman Catholic Church located at 620 North Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD. Interment will take place immediately following the funeral service at Lakemont Memorial Gardens located at 900 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville Maryland. Friends and Family will be received at the Church following the interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of her daughter, Shannon, who is battling this disease. https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Donate
