Obituary

James Jacob Temple Sr., age 85, died Monday, July 3rd at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Always the risk taker, Jim participated in various clinical trials as he fought a valiant battle with leukemia for seven years.
Jim leaves a wife of 64 years, Christine Temple, five children: James Temple Jr., (Karen) David Temple, (Louanne), Peggy Jo Temple, Beth Haskins, (Dennis) and Christopher Temple. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. Jim is survived by his sister Peggy Temple Janosik. Jim was predeceased by his son Michael Temple and his grandson, Matthew Temple.

Master Sargent James J. Temple was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War, where he earned several medals including a Bronze Star, a Good Conduct, a Vietnam Campaign, a Vietnam Service, a National Defense Service, and an Army Commendation. Jim also qualified for the Marksmanship Expert Badge Rifle.

During his military tenure, Jim was known best for his excellent management skills in running both the Officer’s Club and the Non-Commissioned Officers Club for which he received numerous accolades and awards. After retiring from the Army he started his own business, C & J Entertainment. A successful and innovative entrepreneur, C & J flourished under Jim’s guidance. In 2002, Jim passed the baton and left his legacy to his youngest son, Christopher. During retirement, Jim enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping trips, especially with his grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 9th from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm, at Hardesty Funeral Home in Gambrills. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 10th at 12 pm, at St. Joseph’s Church in Odenton. Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be held at 1:45 pm at Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery Crownsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Odenton, Maryland in support of their sister parish’s “Haiti School Fund.”
