Obituary

David Gutterson passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at age 86 at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena following complications from abdominal surgery. David was born April 18, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Adelphi College, Garden City, New York. A resident of Annapolis for 45 years, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Valerie Gutterson, his daughter Wendy and son-in-law David Crandell and granddaughters Samantha and Tzipora, and his son Scott Gutterson and daughter-in-law Debbie and grandsons Matthew and Glen. He was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Walter Gutterson and sisters Muriel Landwehr and Charlotte Ewing.

David started working in the Cosmetic Industry with Hazel Bishop as a territorial salesman and was promoted to District Manager, Regional Sales Manager and National Sales Manager. He then went with Faberge Inc. as National Sales Manager of their Caryl Richards Division. In 1971, Mr. and Mrs. Gutterson started the Valid Sales Company, a manufacturer’s representative agency that grew to employ 12 sales people, 6 merchandisers and 5 office personnel. He eventually sold Valid Sales and established a second firm, F & B Sales and Marketing, which he continued until his death
.
David was a sports enthusiast having played baseball in college as well as professionally. He signed a contract with the then New York Giants but decided to pursue a career in sales. He is a member of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni.

A graveside memorial service is planned on Friday, August 11th at 11:00 AM at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate David’s life will be held at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David’s name to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, Maryland.
